Can I get a connection
There are a lot of photographers/videographers that don’t care about this, most think that as a professional, you should be able to photograph anyone's wedding. I mean after all, they are pretty much the same, right? Getting ready, ceremony, portraits, reception, and honestly, they are right. Most weddings have the same events in them, with some slight variations here and there. Early on when starting to document weddings, I did work with couples I barely knew or if at all as a second shooter. While it all went fine, I quickly realized that way of running things was not for me and here’s why.

*Disclaimer* Now I’m not saying that you have to let me move into your guest room before the wedding, but I do want to get to know who you are not only individually, but also as a couple.Do you like sweet or semi sweet wine, does he hog the bed, who is always late, who has the lead foot? If we are not able to meet in person, then we will do a lot of chatting otherwise on the phone, on video chat, and also through a bunch of homework, aka questionnaires, that I use to help me understand what’s important to you. My engagement and day before sessions are the absolute perfect time for us to connect. Every element that I am able to learn about you helps me understand what is important to you and helps me hyper focus on what’s important on the big day. By doing this, I guarantee I will blow your socks off with imagery that is so personal and dynamic that you’ll be inviting me over for Christmas dinner.

There’s just no way around it, the better I know you, the better I understand your body posture and your body language. If I get to know you as a couple and understand that you are super fun, laid back but not really lovey dovey in nature I'm not going to try and put you in poses that would feel weird or awkward to you. I can tell in an instant when a groom has had enough and needs a minute to grab a drink, or when a bride needs a moment to compose herself because they aren’t just random clients. I know their signs, I watch for things, I notice things, and I do my best to make sure that the entire process of making imagery is fun so you can get on with enjoying your day.
Without establishing a connection with my clients I’d be making imagery for me and not for them. By caring about them their imagery shows the best version of them and their amazing connection to each other. If you'd like to talk to see if we would be the right fit for each other, just reach out and yes before you even ask...I would love to come over for Christmas!
